PROFILE
The energy and passion of racing dominate Joyce Canaday's paintings. She captures the THOROUGHBRED'S dynamic sense of movement in oil and watercolors. With a lifetime of professional painting experience and a solid background in equine anatomy, Joyce realistically paints Thoroughbred racehorses in various surroundings. JOYCE CANADAY works exclusively with the Thoroughbred Racing Industry. Her depth of experience in painting serves her well. Working with racetracks, owners, trainers, farms and horseracing fans, finished paintings evolve from a series of preliminary sketches and studies. Receiving inspiration from the energetic spirit of passionately driven horsepeople and magnificent horses, JOYCE dipicts on canvas the colorful world of horseracing. Acclaim for her Thoroughbred paintings has led to both awards and rewards. Her work, which includes Steviewonderboy for Merv Griffin, hangs in private and corporate collections across the country. Her racehorse paintings attract patrons in growing numbers as she travels the race courses across the country.
After graduation from U.S.C. with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she studied at the ART CENTER COLLEGE OF DESIGN with the best artists in the field. Opening up her own painting and illustration studio, her work consisted of corporate and fine art commissions. Always pushing and refining her craft, she spent summers in Paris painting out of doors and studying, in the museums, the colors of Impressionist paintings. This painting experience solidified her command of color and the ability to capture the essence of a scene. From early work, to national and international gallery representation, Joyce has a rewarding and challenging art career.
Her oil painting"Del Mar Splendor," is on the cover of DEL MAR THOROUGHBRED CLUB'S 2007 program and Media Guide. The original painting was purchased by DMTC to hang in their corporate offices.
