“DEL MAR SPLENDOR”
Original oil painting, 24″X18,” by JOYCE CANADAY was purchased by DEL MAR THOROUGHBRED CLUB to hang in their corporate offices. This painting appeared on the 2007 DEL MAR THOROUGHBRED CLUB’S PROGRAM and MEDIA GUIDE.

“THRILL OF THE RACE at DEL MAR” captures the challenging, competitive heart of Thoroughbred horses as they charge around the far turn towards home. Silks shine as the sound of hooves comes closer and closer toward the the wire. This moment, of pounding hearts and hooves is captured and held in this painting.

The procession of athletically trim Thoroughbreds, ridden by finely honed jockeys, circles the paddock in anticipation of a win! Standing in the paddock I ponder as to how best translate this colorful drama into paint!

Owner’s proud silks, trainers many hours of expertise and hard work, and jockeys’ skills to bring the best out in their mounts, are in the balance. Everyone in the “CIRCLE OF KINGS,” is united in hopefulness – to cross the wire first and grab the shinny golden ring – to paint a painting that conveys this electric spirit.
