Profile

The energy and passion of horse racing dominates JOYCE CANADAY’S paintings. She captures the Thoroughbreds’ strength and dynamic movement in both oil paints, and watercolors. With art training from the esteemed ART CENTER COLLEGE of DESIGN, and solid knowledge of equine anatomy, Joyce has realistically painted Thoroughbred horses and the racing scene since 2001.

Working with horse owners, fans, trainers, farms or yards, and racetracks, finished paintings evolve from a series of preliminary sketches and studies. If working on a commissioned art piece, of a specific horse or racing scene, these pencil studies are reviewed by the client before the painting is begun.

Joyce is often found at the paddock rail studying the horses’ anatomy and photographing horses and jockeys for future paintings. Standing at the quarter or the eighth pole along the track, images for a painting are gleaned as the horses are set down for the drive, and their colors flying.

From early commercial work, to national and international gallery representation, Joyce has a rewarding, challenging and evolving art career. She continues to attract horseracing patrons as she travels from race to track for new insight into the great game of HORSERACING.
